The Ultimate Guide to the Best Anti-Aging Wrinkle Treatments

anti-aging

Many of dermatologist Dr. Sonia Batra’s patients in her Los Angeles-based practice spend thousands of dollars every year on the latest skincare formulations that promise to reduce wrinkles, but often are left with less than desirable results. And then they spend even more on the next “new” anti-aging secret.

Americans spend over $12 million a year fighting wrinkles. While some think surgery is the answer, many cosmetic surgeons will tell you that although a lift can help treat sagging skin like jowls, and under-eye bags, it won’t address skin quality.

Skin quality is determined by genetics and environment, and prevention is key when it comes to reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Risk factors like sun exposure, smoking, and significant weight gain and loss all negatively affect skin quality, causing damage and wrinkles to appear.

Most of us will see visible signs of at least some skin damage and wrinkles by age 60, due to producing less collagen as we age, how much elasticity is in our skin, and whether we’re eating an antioxidant-rich diet, which can help prevent skin damage and wrinkles.

For patients looking for the latest in cosmetic skincare, we talked to Dr. Batra and investigated the best anti-aging wrinkle treatments available. Here’s what we found:

Ultrasound Technology

Dr. Batra’s patients are always surprised when she tells them that this device they can use at home can be more effective than in-office procedures. The Ultrasonic Infuser, $49, uses ultrasound technology, something that’s been available in the medical setting for decades, to increase the absorption of the ingredients in your skincare products. “The skin’s function is to keep the outside world out, and it’s a very effective barrier,” Dr. Batra says. The infuser helps make your skincare products work better by increasing delivery of active ingredients by as much as six times more than just applying topically.

The increased blood circulation will help anti-oxidants battle the free radicals within the skin tissue.

Fillers

Costing between $400-$900 per treatment, dermal fillers can help reduce the appearance of fine lines like crow’s feet and forehead lines, soften more severe wrinkles and facial creases around the mouth, smooth neck, and frown lines, and even plump thinning lips. This quick, in-office procedure can give you a younger, rejuvenated look without invasive surgery. Results can last anywhere from six months to two years.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Using beams of pulsating light to remove skin damage, new laser technology allows dermatologists extreme precision to reduce wrinkles, age and sun-damaged skin, liver spots, and fine lines around the eyes, forehead, and mouth. Costing around $2,000 per treatment, results can continue to improve for up to a year and can last for many years.

Microdermabrasion Treatments

Using a minimally abrasive sanding instrument, microdermabrasion rejuvenates the skin by improving age spots, reducing fine lines, and helps thicken collagen, resulting in younger-looking skin. Costing around $150 a treatment, most patients go for monthly visits to maintain results.

  1. Topical Retinoids: Prescription retinoid works by increasing collagen production, thickening the skin and reducing wrinkles, fading age spots, and preventing UV skin damage. Natural retinoids are derived from Vitamin A while synthetic retinoids are not, although they mimic natural retinoids when applied to the skin. Ask your dermatologist for a prescription retinoid or try one of the natural retinoid creams available over the counter. Used in conjunction with an ultrasonic infuser, topical retinoids can be an effective home treatment for mild wrinkles and skin damage. We like  Restorative Retinoid Cream; $50.

We’ve all been there: That moment when you look in the mirror and catch a new line or age spot and think, What can I do about this? There are quick, painless (or minimally painful) ways to liven up your skin and look as refreshed on the outside as you feel on the inside without spending a fortune.

Now you know which treatments actually work- and where to find them.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I’ve read a lot about Jenu infuser at https://ultrasonicinfuser.com/ and decided to buy it. I have been using the JeNu infuser for 6 weeks. I use it once a day. I didn’t see any results until after about 3 weeks, but my son noticed a difference before I did!
