Summer Skin Detox Tips For All Skin Types

Skin Detox

Now, I’m fairly certain you’ve heard of detox diets and drinks for the body, right? It seems like every day, celebrities and physicians are recommending the latest detoxifying product. Maybe you’ve tried one, maybe you haven’t. But did you know you can do a skin detox?

Yep, that’s right! You can cleanse your skin of waste and impurities just like you can with your internal organs. After months of harsh winter weather, I love a good summer skin detox to get my skin ready to glow all summer long.

A skin detox can improve the overall condition of your skin, specifically its tone and texture. By following these tips, you can let your skin reap all the benefits of detoxifying just in time for summer. Here are some ways you can freshen up your skin fast.

fall scents for your home

Exfoliate 101
While you should normally exfoliate 1-3 times per week, try exfoliating every other day for a week or two instead. If your skin isn’t too sensitive to extra exfoliation, then a few extra uses of a good body scrub will help dead skin cells slough away to reveal radiant skin.

Face Masks Are Fabulous
Facial masks are all the rage right now, and for good reason. They help pull impurities and waste out of your skin, unclog your pores, and combat dull skin. If you’re looking for extra effectiveness as part of a proper detox, leave your favorite facial mask on longer than usual. Or sit in a steaming bath and let the mask seep into your pores to further work its magic on your skin.

Caffeine Isn’t Just For Coffee
Most of us can’t function without caffeine in our lives, am I right? While it may not be highly recommended to ingest in excess, it does wonders for the outside of the body. Look for a body lotion or scrub with extracting qualities to draw out toxins from the skin.  DIY body scrub with coffee grounds, sugar, and a little coconut oil will have the caffeine in it exfoliate and help reduce cellulite.

Get Moving
I hate to harp, but exercise is wonderful for your body. And what’s the biggest organ you’ve got? Your skin! Exercise gets your heart pumping and your skin sweating, which results in the release of impurities from your body. I personally love a hot yoga session to turn up the heat during a skin detox.

Hydrate With H2O
The easiest way to achieve a healthier, happier, better-looking skin? Hydration! Moisturizers are fantastic and work wonders, but you should do your part and drink plenty of water every day. Drinking water is a huge step in detoxing your body and skin. We tend to drink less water during the winter since we’re not overheated or sweating as much as we are in the summer. Try sipping some tea or hot water with lemon every half-hour or so during the day to give your skin a detox boost.

Take A Cleansing Bath
The phrase “cleansing bath” may sound redundant, but trust me on this one. A truly detoxifying bath that will work wonders on your skin isn’t just an ordinary bath. Add some Epsom salts and a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath to help release toxins and impurities from your skin. Add in a few drops of your favorite scented oil, like lavender, for some added relaxation.

A+ Antioxidants
Antioxidant-rich foods, like berries, peppers, tomatoes, and beets give your skin’s metabolism a chance to speed up. This helps cells renew and regenerate, which gives your skin a healthy glow and promotes overall body health – internally and externally. Antioxidants are a proven and essential part of any detox.
