Inspiring Retirement Activities for Adventurers at Heart

Have you finally reached retirement age, but aren’t quite ready to settle down to a simple life near a golf course? Maybe now that you are retired, you’d rather see the world and go on a few adventures.

So what’s stopping you? If you are in good health, have some extra money and feel like living the simple life is the last thing you want to do, why not take that trip you’ve always wanted? There are plenty of awesome ideas for retired seniors to stay active and see the world. Here are some you may not have thought about before, or have but were just too worried to go through with it.

Volunteer Overseas

fall scents for your home

One of the most rewarding ways you could spend some of your time in retirement is to volunteer overseas. People all over the world need access to clean water, good housing and other basic necessities that organizations from all over are clamoring for help.

The best part about this idea is that not only are you helping those in need, you will get to see the world. You will find yourself in exotic locations that you may not ever have thought about before, but contain beautiful sights and great people. You’ll be exposed to new cultures and different cuisines and lifestyles, many that you may have never seen before, which will help expand your understanding of the world around you.

Most organizations offer flexible volunteer times, too, so you can help out for as little as a week or for a year or more, depending on your needs and desires.

A Cross Country Drive

If you don’t want to leave the country, that’s okay because there are plenty of beautiful and exciting locations you can visit right here at home.

The United States has such an eclectic mixture of people, cultures and attractions that anyone can find something fun and new. There are forests and deserts, oceans and rivers, national parks that stretch for days and small towns that offer quaint views. All you have to do is hit the open road and drive wherever you want to see historical landmarks and battlefields or the great cities of the country. The only limit is how far you want to go!

A New Hobby

If you want to stay closer to home but want to stay active, you can always learn a new hobby.

If you have space, you can take up woodworking or finally fix up that old car you’ve always wanted to drive again. Swimming is a great way to stay in shape and get out of the house, or you could find a softball league that caters to seniors. There are plenty of hobbies that you can choose from, but the most important thing is that you find something you love to do and do it for as long as you want.

Just because you retire doesn’t mean you have to stop being adventurous!
