Natural Ways to Relieve Stress

As we get older, it seems like we become more stressed, or at least the cortisol levels within our bodies build up. This is true for women over 50, as extra cortisol is a symptom associated with menopause. This can mean that older women start to feel extremely stressed, possibly for ‘no reason’, and this can be upsetting not only for them but for those around them. The good news is there are many completely natural ways to relieve stress, so whether you are going through the menopause or whether your stress is caused by something else, there are ways for you to deal with it and feel more like yourself again relatively quickly.

Here are just some examples of the best natural ways to relieve stress.

A Healthy Diet

As with almost all things in life, if you have a healthy diet, you can help yourself greatly when it comes to your stress levels. It might be that changing your diet somewhat can make you feel entirely different (in a good way) and relieve your stress altogether.

Ideally, you will want to include plenty of vitamins and minerals within your diet. Doing this will mean that you can balance out your hormones much more easily, and reduce the amount of cortisol (known as the stress hormone to give you a better idea of what it can do) in your body. Having a well-balanced diet means your body can produce the right amount of hormones and chemicals to make you feel less stressed and much healthier.

Don’t Put Things Off

When we’re feeling overwhelmed with all the things we have to do daily, it’s often easier to ignore them altogether and put those awkward or uncomfortable tasks off until another time. The problem is, although this might feel fine in the short term, in the longer-term (and subconsciously) you will feel even more stressed.

When there is something critical you need to do such as looking at a term life insurance calculator to make sure your life insurance is correct, or working out if and when to sell your home and downsize or anything else that might be something you are excited to do, do it anyway. Put this at the top of your list and get it done sooner rather than later because you will feel much better when it’s completed.

Regular Exercise

Being more proactive and ensuring you have a healthy diet are both great things to combat stress naturally and essentially give you your life back. However, it is best if you can combine these things with regular exercise to get the most out of your life and feel much less stressed.

When you exercise, even if you don’t feel like doing it, you will release the hormone called serotonin, and that is also known as the ‘happy hormone’. It works with your body to reduce the amount of cortisol present, so of course, the more you can produce the better. You will feel less stressed, and you will be healthier and happier too.
