Getting a good night’s sleep has a role other than regenerating your body. It is also beneficial in assisting with your mental health. Without a good night’s sleep, the amygdala, the brain’s emotional center, is less likely to keep your emotional health in check. This affects your response to situations and can include an increase of stress, fear, anger, and other negative reactions when dealing with day to day problems.
In addition, those who are lacking in quality sleep have been shown to have a five times higher risk of facing depression and 20 times more of a chance of having anxiety disorders develop. On the flip side, however, studies have shown that adults who report seven-plus hours of sleep each night also report having strong mental health.
