It Is for Freedom That Christ Has Set Us Free

It is for Freedom that Christ Has Set Us Free

By Laci Corzo –

When asked what super power we would choose if we had the opportunity, most of us would probably choose being able to fly. Why is that? Flying represents freedom, and we feel like, if we could fly, we could do whatever we want and have absolutely no limitations or boundaries. When I picture complete freedom, I picture a bird soaring through the air with its wings spread wide. As kids, we imagined that someday we would be able to fly. This type of freedom, as amazing as it sounds, doesn’t even compare with the freedom Christ gave us when he died on the cross and overcame sin and death once for all.

The most exciting part is that, although we may never be able to fly like a superhero or a bird, we CAN have the amazing and life-changing freedom that Jesus offers. But the enemy seeks to keep us enslaved by worry, doubt, anxiety, pain, bitterness, depression, and all those things that rob our freedom. The enemy only comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). John 3:16-17 declares, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” So, the first and most important action we have to do is accept Jesus as the Son of God and as our Savior, who has filled us with the Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We have to use these tools of the Spirit to help us keep our minds set on freedom by identifying and dispelling the lies of the enemy that seek to keep us entrapped on every level.

We also have to remind ourselves that we are free indeed because the Son has set us free (John 8:36). Then, as John 8:31-32 says, following Jesus’ teachings helps us to remain in this freedom each and every day. He has set these commands in place not to limit us or to keep us from good things. On the contrary, He knows what is best for us and always does what is best for us. He knows what leads to life and what leads to death, and He wants us to remain in His freedom.

We can only do this by receiving and accepting His act that saved us and set us free, by using the Spirit of power and a sound mind to overcome the enemy’s attacks, by meditating on and obeying Jesus’ teachings, and by trusting that He has every detail of our lives in His hands and that He is always working everything out for His kingdom and for our good. We must trust God, and meditate on our freedom, so we may then act and live in freedom daily.

John 8:31-32 “To those who believed Him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
