5 Ways to Make Your Home More Romantic

5 ways to make your home more romantic

By Jared Wade  –

Home isn’t supposed to just be the place where you stuff your face every night and watch television. This is where you and your partner enjoy your life together as your bond grows stronger and deeper. It should reflect that desire — and create some desire as well. Here are five ways to cultivate a home with an air of romance.

Lighten Things Up

We often fail to realize just how large of an effect lighting has. We spend so much of our lives these days trapped in stuffy locations lit by fluorescent monstrosities — at work, at the grocery store, even at home for some poor souls — that it starts to become normal. But soft, low lighting can have a tremendous impact on our mood. Make sure your home is set up well: not too light, not too dark, and with fixtures that enhance the ambiance rather than just serve as utilitarian artificial light. If you don’t know where to start, seek the services of a professional lighting designer. It can make all the difference in your love life.

Stay Surrounded by Flowers

Nothing adds an air of romance like roses. Try to always keep some fresh-cut flowers throughout the house — especially in the bedroom or near the bath. Just the thought of rose petals near the bed can subconsciously keep you in the mood for love. And it doesn’t have to be roses. Lilies, orchids, irises, carnations or any flower of your choice can create the same atmosphere.

Scent of a Woman

The other benefit of flowers is what they do for your olfactory sense. Scientific studies have proven that our sense of smell is the most attuned to our erogenous mind, so you want your home to always have the scent of flowers and candles — not laundry and leftovers. Whether you prefer flowers and candles or potpourri and cinnamon warming on the stove, be sure to always keep the home smelling pretty.

Enhance Your Outer Glow

Do you have a pool? If so, why stick with the same boring lights outside? If you want to spice things up and create a better ambiance, upgrade to color LED pool lights. You can go with red for love, blue for a Caribbean vibe, green to create your own emerald city — or anything in between. And not only will this add pizzazz to your outdoor area, but LED lights are also better for the environment.

Install Whole House Speakers

It’s a wonderful feeling to put on some smooth, romantic music while you prepare dinner for your partner. You can chop the vegetables and marinate the steak as you are swept away into a blissful world. But if the sounds are only playing in the kitchen, then you can be shocked back into reality when you head into the bedroom to get yourself ready for the evening and are greeted with only silence (or worse, outside traffic or noisy neighbors). That’s why full-home audio is so nice. You can transition from room to room and maintain your mood — even as you jump in the shower.
